RESTORATION
Over the period 1996-2000 more than 11 thousand museum exhibits were restored, including 1439 insects. The great amount of restoration work can be accounted for the moving to new building and creation of permanent exhibition on an area of 5000 square meters. Besides, substantial part of museum collection urgently required restoration because the collection had been kept under unsafe conditions in the old building. Some specimens had undergone some damage by transportation despite all the efforts of the employees. Particular difficulties appeared with the transportation of largest stuffed animals and sculptures because of small dimensions of the old building doors. The largest plaster sculptures were have to be cut into pieces and assembled right into the halls of the new museum building where they should be on display.
The considerable scope of restoration works were undertaken for the aims of temporary exhibitions. The last were great in number especially after 1997 when all the permanent exhibition halls had been opened for the visitors.
